Dingming Shu, PhD, the second grade research fellow, the post scientist of the national technical system of broiler industry, and the State Department special allowance expert, is the director of both the State Key Laboratory of Livestock and Poultry Breeding and the Key Laboratory of Poultry Genetics and Breeding of the Department of Agriculture. Dr. Shu is also the members of Livestock and Poultry Genetic Resources Committee (Poultry Professional Committee) and National Broiler Genetic Improvement Program, and the vice-chairman of the Poultry Branch of Chinese Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Society, and the Guangdong Poultry Industry Association. He has been long focused on the researches around broiler genetic breeding and industrialization of new strains.
Dr. Shu has undertaken over 30 national and provincial projects, such as the National 863 Program, and the Joint Foundation of National Natural Science and Guangdong. The strains Lingnanhuang Ⅰ, Lingnanhuang Ⅱ and Lingnanhuang 3, which were all mainly bred by Dr. Shu, have been approved by the National Livestock and Poultry Variety Approval Committee of China. Moreover, Dr. Shu has published over 100 papers and 6 poultry monographs, and been authorized 15 national invention patents. His excellent work on poultry breeding and industrialization is high appreciated and wins himself 9 national or ministerial-provincial awards, of which it includes a second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress, and 4 first prize of Science and Technology Progress at the ministerial-provincial level. Dr. Shu has been selected into the National High-level Talents Special Support Program, Young and Middle-aged Leaders in Scientific and Technological Innovation, the New Centuary National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, etc.
